The COVID-19 fastened the digitalization process with an unprecedented speed. However,  the older generations are left behind and excluded from the digital world due to the limited or lack of digital skills. Specifically because of this, the training offer on "Digital media literacy" aims to provide the adults with the skills to find, access, share and send secured digital content. The course starts with the introduction to the digital media and setting the understanding of the basic concepts to be used during the course, following some very interactive and practical sessions on how to advance our digital skills, as well as help better understand digital tools, how they work and how they influence and affect adult people.
The training methodology uses non formal methods as well as presentations, group work, and reflection sessions to analyse and implement strategies to get aware of the opportunities as well as risks of the online sources. The participants will work on advancing their digital literacy and digital skills, through practical activities. The final goal of the course is to help the adult participants to evaluate the digital content. 

Learning outcomes

Participants to the course will be able to:

  • Better know the digital opportunities and risks of the online environment;
  • Assess easily the digital media sources;
  • Get aware of misinformation and fake news and sources;
  • Understand the security and privacy core issues;
  • Better understand the impact of digital news and digital mass media;
  • Develop transversal skills suck as critical thinking, evaluation of the digital  tools and online security.

Schedule

Day 1 –  Introduction to Digital Media

  • Introduction;
  • Getting to know each other;
  • Presentations of the participants’ organizations;
  • Digital Media self assessment test;
  • The theoretical framework of the course.

Day 2 – Media literacy 

  • What do we mean by media literacy?
  • How digital media affects us?
  • How to "protect" ourself from digital media effectively?
  • The human rights approach to digitalization 

Day 3 – Online content and sources

  • Assessment of the online content and sources;
  • Creation of our online content;
  • How do we check the online sources?
  • Practical exercises.

Day 4 – Privacy issues

  • How do we understand the online privacy?
  • How to take care of our privacy and security online?
  • Practical exercises.

Day 5 – Hands on Digital Media Lab

  • The participants work together to create activities to help students reflect on the role of media in their everyday life and become responsible media consumers.

Day 6 – Security issues 

  • How to secure a safe online space of work?
  • How to protect yourself for online threats?

Day 7 – Course closure

  • Course evaluation;
  • Issue of the Certificates;
  • Cultural activities.

Specifics


Activities: The course will include cultural activities. Further information will be provided on location.

Certificate: Certificates are offered to the participants who attend at least 80% of the course.

Schedule: Upon the decision of the course provider, classes take place in the Morning (9:00 – 14:00).

Course program: The draft schedule may differ based on the trainer delivering the specific session and the requests of the participants. 

If you would like to discuss a specific topic, please indicate it at least 3 weeks in advance. The trainer will send you the definitive course schedule approximately two weeks before the course.
